College to host Michaelmas Cricket Week

2011-09-02 00:00

SPRING seems to be upon us and with spring come the white flannels and the cherry-red balls. The long-standing Michaelmas Cricket Week hosted by Maritzburg College is in its 52nd year. Tradition has it that half the sides will come from KwaZulu-Natal and the other half from outside the province.

The hosts will be joined by St Charles, Hilton and Michaelhouse from the Midlands. DHS, Glenwood, Westville and Kearsney come from the Durban area. A KZN development side makes up the ninth side from the home province.

Visitors from outside the province are King Edward VII School, St John’s and St Stithians from Johannesburg. From Pretoria, Affies, Pretoria BHS and St Albans.

Hudson Park from East London, whose cricket has improved from year to year, will be at their fourth year.

Grey College from Bloemfontein and St Andrews College from Grahamstown will also make up the visiting sides.

College start their preparation with a match against their Old Boys tomorrow and on Sunday play against St Stithians, both on Goldstones.
