Colloquium: Methodist Indian Mission marks 150 years

2011-02-07 00:00

GUEST speaker Bishop Dr Taranath Sagar, president of the Methodist Conference in India, attended a colloquium at the Mobeni Methodist Church in Chatsworth, south of Durban, on Saturday to commemorate the 150 years since the Methodist Indian Mission was formed in Natal.

The event was one of the first major projects of the Methodist Heritage Foundation, which seeks to enhance the church's mission of healing and transformation, so as to conserve and harness a part of heritage and history in a resolve to work towards the vision "A Christ-healed Africa for the healing of nations".

The objective is to commemorate "a past wrought with pain and struggle", which has seen many challenges confronted and overcome, while acknowledging and celebrating the present, and the fortitude and grace to overcome challenges still to be resolved, said Reverend Eammanuel Gabriel, the organiser.
