Selectors looked for high-quality work that was beautifully made by exhibitors, including unusual items that showed the makers’ creativity.

From traditional shawls, beaded jewellery, ethnic pots, paintings, to carved crosses, the Bazaar boasts some of the best craft of KwaZulu-Natal.

At the VIP opening yesterday, Echo editor Dumisani Zondi thanked the Tatham Art Gallery for working tirelessy to ensure the event’s success each year, and crafters for creating employment opportunities.

Tatham Art Gallery director Brendan Bell said it was with “mixed feelings” that this is the gallery’s last year of involvement with the bazaar, as from next year it will be run under the auspices of The Witness and Echo.

General manager of the Bazaar, Phumzile Sithole, said this will be her last year with the Tatham as she is moving on to other business opportunities.

“It’s been good. I’ve enjoyed working with the gallery and especially with Echo Craft Bazaar,” Sithole said.

Gale Cornhill, one of the event organisers, said she believes the bazaar is going to “get bigger and better”, adding that there are many new projects and opportunities in the pipeline for next year.

Cornhill said that crafters emerge from various race groups, catering for different kinds of people.
