Comedy: Hilton stars in SA film

BARRY Hilton, South Africa’s best-loved “Cousin”, plays the title role in Neal Sundstrom’s comedy Finding Lenny, which is set for release at Nu Metro and Ster Kinekor cinemas countrywide.

The film, which is directed and co-written by Neal Sundstrom and produced by Terry Vallet, tells the story of Lenny Vincent, the coach of an under 11s team at St Benedicts.

His life takes a turn for the worse when he loses his wife, his job and his belief in the inherent milk of human kindness, and then to compound matters he and his friend, David Markowitz — a highly neurotic, failed bookie — find themselves drowing their sorrows at a restaurant where a heist gang are about to strike.

Hilton, who has reached international status as a stand-up comedian and does sell-out shows without barbed prejudice, snide racism or crude language, plays the loveable loser, Lenny.

Starring alongside him are Russel Savadier, Yule Masiteng, Vuyo Dabula, Mandla Hltashwayo, Catriona Andrews, Dambuza Mdledle, Ron Smerczak, Kathleen Anderson, Hugh Masebenza, Thembsie Matu, Mark Fish and Phil Masinga.

Sundstrom’s movie credits include the SA comedy, Inside Out and award-winning TV series, Homelands. The film was shot in Gauteng and opens in cinemas on April 3.
