Communist Party closes ranks with ANC against ill-discipline

2012-02-27 00:00

THE ANC’s alliance partner, the South African Communist Party (SACP), said that the ruling party has clearly become more prepared to crack the whip on ill-discipline. “The ANC national leadership has clearly signalled that chronic, persistent ill-discipline and factionalism will not be allowed — and we cannot agree more,” the party said yesterday.

This statement followed its central committee meeting in Johannesburg at which it reviewed the past five years as part of its preparations for its 13th national congress, to be held in July.

It also comes hot on the heels of the disruption, allegedly by ANC Youth League members, during President Jacob Zuma’s speech at a centenary celebration in Cape Town on Thursday. In a statement released yesterday, SACP spokesperson Malesela Maleka said the committee condemned the behaviour.

It also supported the multi-billion-rand infrastructure spending programme that Zuma announced during his state of the nation address.

The communists cautioned that for infrastructure development to succeed, the fight against corruption needed to be increased. — Witness Reporter.
