Community Chest gives out R2 mln to PMB welfare groups

More than R2 million is to be distributed to 52 welfare organisations by the Pietermaritzburg and District Community Chest.

Executive director Aroo Naidoo said yesterday that since 1961 over R29 million has been raised for the benefit of welfare organisations in Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas.

The R2 million that will be distributed this year will go towards the following: health care support services, child support services, rehabilitation, child and family welfare, elderly care, care of the homeless, care of the mentally handicapped, care of the physically disabled, care of the blind and deaf, care of the cerebral palsied, support of epilepsy sufferers, community development projects, support of cancer and Hospice.

“Reaching out to the community in need is only possible as a result of the donors … On behalf of all those that benefited, the chest … thanks all donors,” said Naidoo.
