Community help police

POLICE made a breakthrough with the arrest of an alleged murderer wanted for a crime committed in April, all thanks to the community’s involvement.

Police arrested the 21-year-old suspect in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Sacca squatter camp near Mkondeni after they were tipped off to his whereabouts.

The suspect allegedly murdered 62-year-old Makhuphela Noyibo, who lived in Sacca.

According to a close source, the suspect, who also lives in the area, apparently told the old man to come with him because he wanted to get “the roots” of the area. When the old man asked him if he was going to harm him, the suspect allegedly told him no. People who witnessed this then told the suspect that should anything happen to the old man, he would be held responsible. The old man was later found stabbed to death.

Police pounced on the young man around 5.30 am on Saturday, finding him with a 17-year-old girl who allegedly told the police she had been raped throughout the night.

Another man was found in the room with them. While police said it is possible that he would have raped the teen too, this man was not arrested since he not done anything yet.

The 21-year-old is linked to several other murders and a rape case has been opened. Police are looking for witnesses or anyone with further information on the murder of Noyibo to contact Warrant Officer Ablon Majozi on 033 845 7711 or 072 818 4140.

The motive for Noyibo’s murder is still unknown, but police said witchcraft cannot be ruled out.
