2010-11-05 00:00

THREE teenagers are to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the death of a 24-year-old woman who was killed after she was hit by a concrete block thrown from a bridge.

Two of the minors are 14 years old; the other is 16.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge said yesterday the three suspects were arrested following an investigation by Cato Manor police officers.

He said the three were arrested at Cato Manor on Wednesday night.

“They were identified through an intelligence- driven operation …police were convinced that they are the potential suspects in the matter …”

Mdunge said they will face charges of murder and malicious damage to property.

“We are going to oppose bail,” Mdunge told The Witness.

Yesterday police named the deceased as Sphesihle Zuma.

She died in St Augustine’s Hospital on Wednesday morning after sustaining serious internal injuries.

She was a passenger in a vehicle that was travelling along the N3 westbound between Sherwood and Spaghetti Junction on Tuesday night when a concrete block crashed through the windscreen of her car and landed on her lap.

Specialised equipment was used to take her out of the car.

The driver was not hurt.
