Conniving estate agents upset ANC

2008-03-12 00:00

ANC ward committees in the northern suburbs are upset at certain estate agents in their area, who they feel are charging poor people a fee of between R200 and R250 to lodge rates objections.

They have called on these agents to show community spirit and join the volunteers on the Msunduzi Rates Forum to offer a free service to the community.

Residents who have not yet filed their objections are urged to visit the municipal and ward councillor offices in the area where help is still available.

An estate agent who advertised in local media offering pensioners assistance in obtaining rates rebates was warned that the Msunduzi Municipality has not yet tabled its draft budget and the details of rebates have not been spelt out.

Municipal manager Rob Haswell said yesterday that the draft budget will be tabled at a full council meeting on Wednesday, March 26.
