Convenor Naidoo tells how Dolphins selectors chosen

2008-10-20 00:00

IN response to queries from Witness readers about the form and composition of the Dolphins selection panel, KZN Cricket Union manager of playing affairs Jay Naidoo said nominations come from the district bodies and the four-man panel is then decided on by KZN Cricket’s executive.

“All the Dolphins selectors have completed the Cricket South Africa level three coaching qualification, although this is not a prerequisite,” Naidoo told The Witness yesterday.

Naidoo is the convenor of selectors. He represented Northern Natal and is a former SA U19 selection convenor. Naidoo also coached KZN Schools’ teams at Coke (both Nuffield and Khaya Majola) Weeks for a number of years and played club cricket for Orientals in Pietermaritzburg for 25 years.

Dolphins coach Yashin Ebrahim completed his level one and two coaching courses with the England and Wales Cricket Board at Lord’s in London. He finished his level three in South Africa and is completing a level 4 here, too.

Ebrahim represented Natal B, as well as Natal Colts in his playing days.

The third member of the panel, Stanley Govender, was the captain of the Natal team in the eighties, while Linda Zondi represented SA U19 and has coached KZN Schools at Coca Cola Khaya Majola Weeks.

The four-man panel is also tasked with selecting the KZN Coastal amateur first-class side, who play in the SA Airways Provincial Challenge competition along with the Pietermaritzburg-based KZN Inland team.

KZN Inland have their own selection panel.
