TWO men and an 18-year-old youth, accused of murdering Imbali Police Constable Bheki Mntambo, were yesterday ordered to stand trial in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on February 14.

Mntambo, who was off duty, was walking home at night on March 13 when he was attacked by a gang which had two firearms. He tried to return fire, but was shot in the chest and died.

His body remained undiscovered until morning when an accused returned and took Mntambo’s 9mm pistol, his wrist watch and cellphone.

The accused are Fanele Mwelase (23), Bongani Hlongwane (32) and Siphamandla Cele (18).
