Copper theft: Six escape from cells

A GROUP of six men accused of forming a copper theft syndicate are on the run after escaping from police cells at Nottingham Road on Saturday. It is thought that they escaped through the prison ceiling.

According to police spokesperson Captain Lolly Moodley, the escapees are Joseph Biu (20), Talente Zuma (31), Elphas Mashaba (32), Muzi Khumalo (38), Pitso Mokoena (28) and Bongumusa Dlamini (29).

“The group is facing charges of copper theft in the area and were awaiting trial. We appeal to the public to call the police if they see them as they are a danger.”

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the escapees should contact Lieutenant Dlamini at 071 351 7223 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
