Cops arrest man linked to multiple robberies

POLICE had a breakthrough when they arrested a man in the Swapo area of Copesville and discovered he was linked to more robberies.

A police insider said the arrest was carried out on Saturday and the suspect was apprehended for murder.

“When we got to the scene, we also discovered three firearms including a rifle,” he said.

He said the arrested suspect was linked to nine robberies that occurred in Bishopstowe and six robberies that took place in Mountain Rise area.

He said police were about to arrest another suspect.

Mountain Rise police said the arrested suspect is key in resolving a number of robbery cases that have occurred in Bishopstowe and Mountain Rise recently.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said they can confirm that a 32-year-old suspect was arrested for murder and will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
