Cops clamp down on liquor stores

2012-12-05 00:00

MOUNTAIN Rise’s police station commander is a woman on a mission.

At the weekend, Brigadier Francis Bantham took part in a surprise raid to ensure that liquor outlets were not selling alcohol illegally

Bantham told The Witness some liquor outlets tended to remain open after hours and on weekends.

“The communities that are complaining about these liquor stores are the same people that are supporting them,” she said.

The brigadier and 10 of her officers conducted the random patrol.

She said of the businesses trading illegally: “They must comply with the law.

“We will have zero tolerance for illegal liquor outlets during the holiday season.”

She said that on Sunday they visited four liquor outlets, which they forced to close, and they would be keeping an eye on them.

“We are going to be arresting people in future,” Bantham said, adding the police would be doing such operations on a regular basis. — Witness Reporter.
