Cop’s killer among two men held in Georgedale

INVESTIGATORS probing the murder of Police Constable Siyabonga Mthokozisi Khumalo (25) and the wounding of his girlfriend finally got a break when they arrested two men in Georgedale near Mpumalanga Township, near Hammarsdale.

The KZN Provincial Tracking Team, assisted by the Special Task Force, arrested two suspects who were wanted for murders and attempted murders, said police spokesperson Thulani Zwane.

The members, armed with warrants for the arrest of 27-year-old Philani Pipiza Koti (Majola) and 35-year-old Khehla Zwane, worked around the clock tracing the suspects.

The men were found in possession of two unlicensed firearms, a .38 revolver with five live rounds and a shotgun which was stolen in the Richards Bay area.

Koti was wanted for a double murder and three counts of attempted murder, which took place at Georgedale on December 18, where two victims were shot and killed and three more wounded.

Zwane (35) was wanted for a murder and attempted murder that was reported at Mpongo Road, Woodyglen near Mpumalanga on March 22, where Khumalo was shot and killed.

A woman who was with him was wounded.

Both suspects were charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They will appear in the Mpumalanga Magistrate’s Court soon.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, appealed to the community to play a meaningful role by reporting the whereabouts of wanted criminals to police.
