SIX Durban police officers are going on trial today for a variety of crimes including sexual assault and possession of drugs and ammunition.

Warrant Officer Kirubabhum Naidoo (33), and constables Bukani Mlandeli Dlamini (29), Good-enough Dlamuka (34), Mandlakayise Mkhwanazi (32), Kenneth Gwala (33) and Sydwell Ayanda Gwexa (32), were arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) in July 2012.

They were members of the Protection Security Services (PSS), stationed at Cavendish SAPS.

They will be going on trial at the Durban Regional Court to face a large number of charges.

The suspects, together with civilians, allegedly robbed people in their homes and planted drugs in order to extort payment to avoid being arrested.

Some of the victims were robbed of substantial sums of money.
