Cop’s relative arrested

2011-05-03 00:00

A FAMILY member has been arrested for the execution-style murders last Wednesday of two SA Police Force employees, Constable Nonhlanhla Zakwe (24) and data typist Sibahle Buthelezi (23).

It is unclear whether the 30-year-old suspect is related to Zakwe or Buthelezi.

The police said yesterday that the male suspect, who was found in possession of a Z88 pistol, was arrested by a Phoenix police officer and was handed over to the Hawks for further investigation.

The two were shot dead while seated in a car in the driveway of Zakwe’s home in Avoca Hills, Durban, last Wednesday.

Nothing was taken from the couple after the attack.

Zakwe was the third woman police officer to be killed in the past two weeks.

National Police Commissioner General Bheki Cele applauded the swift arrest of the suspect.
