Correctional officer suspended for sending nude photo to colleague

A SENIOR official at Westville’s Medium B correctional facility was suspended last week following allegations that he had sent a picture of his genitals to a woman he was courting.

Sources in the correctional facility said the woman did not take kindly to the official’s advances, and that the photo of his manhood was apparently too much for her and so she reported the matter to prison authorities.

The official’s name has been withheld since he has not been found guilty of the allegation.

“If the man did this thing, then it’s bad news because it gives a bad name to male warders and we need to condemn it,” said the source.

“But anything is possible in the facility. How do we know it’s not a plot to get rid of the man by those who don’t want him there? We need to be careful about this and measures should be put in place to ensure that the investigation into the matter is not interfered with.”

By the time of going to press, officials were unable able to confirm what the woman’s position was at the prison.

Westville area commissioner Hento Davids said the allegations are that the official made advances towards the woman more than once. Davids said things got “ugly” when the picture was sent via WhatsApp.

“When this was brought to my attention last Monday I called the official in and explained to him what was happening, and a decision to suspend him was taken pending the investigation,” said Davids.

He said he had no knowledge of what services the woman provided to the prison.

“At this stage, it’s her word against his. We are carefully looking into the matter and proper procedure has been followed,” he said.

When contacted for comment, the official said the person who gave his number to the journalist must comment.

“I don’t speak with journalists. Let’s hang up, bye,” was all he said.
