Corruption: five cops arrested

2010-02-20 00:00

FIVE KZN police officers were recently arrested by the South African Police Service Organised Crime Units for being involved in corrupt activities.

Two policemen from Ladysmith as well as a security guard from Newcastle were arrested on suspicion that they were involved in the cash-in-transit robbery. Their arrests follow a spate of cash-in-transit robberies in the area late last year.

Police spokesman Senior Superintendent Jay Naicker said the three men have been charged for a cash-in-transit robbery in Amesfoort on September 3, 2009, and “have been linked to two other cash-in-transit robberies in the area”.

In another incident, three policemen from the Mayville SAPS were arrested in a trap after a man alleged they tried to extort money from a suspect in a theft of motor vehicle case so he could avoid being arrested.
