Corruption trial: no plot against Mabuyakhulu and Nkonyeni, says Cosatu

2011-08-18 00:00

THERE is no political plot behind the prosecution of Economic Development MEC Mike Mabuyakhulu and KZN Legislature speaker Neliswa Nkonyeni, despite the support expressed for them by ANC members during their appearance on corruption charges last month, says Cosatu.

Provincial secretary Zet Luzipo said yesterday, following a two-day meeting of the labour federation’s provincial executive committee, that the PEC has “no basis to believe or suspect” that the corruption case is a political plot.

Mabuyakhulu and Nkonyeni are alleged to have solicited a R1 million “donation” for the ANC from Uruguay businessman Gaston Savoi , allegedly in return for his company being awarded several million rands’ worth of tenders for the purchase and hire of water purification plants and oxygen generating equipment to the health service.
