Cosafa youth champs: defeat to Lesotho raises questions about SA U20 choice of coach

2010-12-08 00:00

AMAJITA’S early exit from the Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 Youth Championship in Botswana has further laid bare the sorry state of the lack of proper football development structures in South Africa.

Lesotho’s 2-1 victory at Lobatse Stadium on Monday was well deserved against a SA side that never really came to the party.

Questions have to be asked about coach Khabo Zondo’s appointment to the post given that he does not have a record of having worked with youngsters before.

It is puzzling to see Safa’s continued ignoring of the expertise of coaches such as Thabo Dladla, Zeph Mthembu, Farouk Khan and Harold “Jazzy Queen” Legodi, who are highly knowledgeable in development matters.

Amajita’s game against Namibia today is just a formality as they have already bombed out of the annual continental tourney.
