Court: trial date set for alleged serial rapist

2009-03-12 00:00

Alleged serial rapist and killer Faizel Mohamed Sayed (35) of Howick West will stand trial in the Pietermaritzburg High Court from November 16 to December 11 on a string of charges, including the murder of nine-year-old Nombuso Nhlangulela, whose body was found on March 3 last year following her disappearance on February 28.

Her body was found tied to a tree the following Monday. It is alleged that her attacker — who also raped her — tied her to the tree and placed a plastic bag over her head. She died of suffocation.

Sayed stands charged with her kidnapping and two counts of rape and murder in connection with the incident. He faces a total of 28 other charges of rape and robbery relating to attacks on nine teenagers and young women between April 26 and June 21.
