Crash claims girl’s life as N3 stays busy

TRAFFIC was busy on the main routes in KZN yesterday, with 1 200 vehicles per hour passing through Mooi River and Tugela toll plazas on the N3 southbound, and 1 600 going inland.

N3 Toll Concession spokesperson Andy Visser said at 3 pm, “Traffic has been quite steady throughout the day. It has been sitting at that number for the last three hours.”

Zinhle Mngomezulu of the Road Traffic Inspectorate said traffic at Mariannhill Plaza was moderate, and more vehicles were heading north.

The average number of vehicles passing northbound through Mariannhill Plaza was 1 700, while 1 400 were headed to the coast.

A 10-year-girl died when her family, driving in a bakkie, were rear-ended by an Atos on the M20, traffic officers reported. An adult was critically injured and five others were seriously injured.

RTI officers in Hibberdene arrested a man driving a stolen yellow Isuzu bakkie.
