Crash death: couple close creche

2008-08-11 00:00

Msunduzi Municipality has withdrawn its plans to conduct an inspection of conditions at a Pietermaritzburg crèche whose owner recently ran over 10 children, killing one of them.

The council said it is no longer appropriate to conduct the inspection, after its owners, Roshnee and Prakash Hemraj, decided they would no longer run the facility.

Police are still collecting evidence for the accident.

A nine-month-old girl, Saiyona Moonsamy, was killed in the accident.

Roshnee Hemraj, who has no driver’s licence, mistakenly drove her husband’s car towards the children, instead of reversing it.

Roshnee, who might be charged with culpable homicide, is said to be suffering from depression following the accident.
