Crash: pinned under fuel tanker

2011-11-03 00:00

AN elderly couple was killed in an accident yesterday evening on the N2 near Umdloti when their car rear ended a petrol tanker.

Paramedics found the dead couple still trapped in the remains of the car that had been pinned under the petrol tanker. The firemen had to use the Jaws of Life to free the bodies trapped inside the twisted metal.

In another accident on the N2 yesterday morning, four people were injured in a 13 car pile-up on the N2 just before the Umgeni Road off-ramp. It is not clear how the accident happened, but a taxi which was carrying no passengers at the time was crushed between two heavy goods trucks. The injured had sustained serious injuries and had to be transported to nearby hospitals for further care.
