Crash: plane still missing

2010-02-16 00:00

POLICE divers are still searching for a light aircraft that crashed off Tinley Manor Beach on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast at the weekend.

Two pilots, Carlos GarciaCabral and Sean Fraser, were conducting a test flight on Saturday when they had to eject and parachute into the sea. Both escaped with minor injuries.

Captain Troy Allison of the police search-and-rescue unit said the divers are still searching for the plane.

“It’s possible that the air pockets are keeping it buoyant. It could have moved far away from the scene of the crash,” he said.

The unit is working with the Civil Aviation Authority which is investigating the cause of the crash. — WR.
