Cricket: Chatsworth United look good to win

THE Chatsworth United first XI took a major step forward in their quest to win the KZN Coastal Premier 60 club league when they beat title rivals Crusaders by five wickets on Sunday.

The result leaves United nearly six points ahead of challengers Pinetown, who have leapfrogged into second place following their victory over African Warriors.

Third- and fourth-placed Berea Rovers and Saders, 10 and nearly 13 points respectively behind United, now have some serious catching up to do if they hope to get back in the running.


Crusaders 145 (J. Schorn 32, K. Ridgeway 30, G. Roderick 32, T. Essack seven for 47) Chatsworth United 147 for five (F. Crowie 64*, J. Schorn three for 26). United won by 5 wickets.

Dawnheights 76 (J. Fowler seven for 37) Delta 77 for one (N. Bhayla 37*). Delta won by 9 wickets.

African Warriors 113 (T. Henderson eight for 62) Pinetown 114 for six (S. Muthusamy 44*). Pinetown won by 4 wickets.

Berea Rovers 189 (L. Madsen 55, C. Flowers six for 52) Amanzimtoti 149 (C. Flowers 41, R. Cheesman six for 34). Rovers won by 40 runs.

Collegians 103 (F. Lazarus four for 17) Chatsworth Sporting 104/0 (D. Anand 87*). Sporting won by 10 wickets.

Tertiary 194 (C. Hauptfleisch 41, L. Pechey 44, G. Pechey 39, M. Patel three for 39, S. Rampersad four for 55) Topham 134 (K. Nagan 81, R. Chadwick three for 37, C. Pool five for 39). Tertiary won by 60 runs.
