Cricket: team chosen for President’s XI

2010-01-27 00:00

AFTER a practice session on Monday afternoon, a team has been selected to play for the President’s XI in the Sunfoil Night League.

The net has been spread wide amongst the Inland schools, but Howick, arguably the strongest of the second-tier schools, supply five of the players with all the others being the sole representatives from their schools.

Three Howick players in particular have done very well in their matches to date. Ryan Stanbury has performed well with both bat and ball and was the hero after Saturday’s win against Treverton, where he made 55 and took six wickets in an inspired four-over spell. He has also scored a century this year.

Gary Hodgkinson took 16 wickets for Howick in their four matches at the Alex week and Brian Kunst has reached three wickets in one game and made 86 in another.

This afternoon’s match sees them in their first game against Westville.

President’s XI: Suhail Razack (Ladysmith, capt), Brian Kunst (Howick), Gareth Gardener (Howick), Ryan Stanbury (Howick), Sohail Ganie (Heather), Cody Mortimer (Howick), Marcel Frenzel (MCS), Smanga Sishi (Carter), Prenay Kewelpersad (Estcourt), Lance Jeffrey (Wartburg), Jadaan Knipe (Alexandra), Gary Hodgkinson (Howick), Sibusiso Mathonsi (Raisethorpe).
