2008-10-07 00:00

ARMED gunmen made off with R2,5 million worth of diamond and gold jewellery from a auction held at a Durban hotel.

Police spokesman Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said that three men entered the Riverside Hotel and Conference Centre on Sunday morning before the auction started.

“The men held up the security guard at gunpoint and took the jewellery that was being transported to the auction room.”

The suspects fled in a VW Jetta.

Mdunge said that more suspects could be involved and that police hope to make arrests soon.
