Crime: Blitz on Bombay Road nets street kids

SOCIAL workers will seek to return to their homes street children rounded up during the police’s Operation Bandit exercise over the weekend.

The operation focused on the northern parts of the city and saw the temporary closure of Bombay Road.

“We will be working with social workers and Youth for Christ in making sure that these kids are returned to their homes,” said spokesperson Lieutenant Max Thusi.

Six children were taken in.

Police arrested a handful of people for having drugs, including dagga and mandrax, driving while drunk, assault, robbery and crimen injuria.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said that more crime prevention operations would be conducted in the city.
