Crime: Gang in gun bust in court

Seven accused appeared briefly in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition that were allegedly found in a BMW and a Golf stopped and searched by members of the SAPS Dog Unit in the CBD on Saturday evening.

Vukani Mahlase (42) of Imbali, Mbongiseni Mkhize (40) of Msinga, Nhlanhla Mahlase (42) of Willowfountain, Themba Ngcobo (42) of Imbali, Nhlanhla Ngubane (39) of Imbali, Msizi Chonco (21) of Msinga and Mzothini Sibisi (54) also of Msinga face charges of unlawful possession of seven firearms and 22 live rounds of ammunition.

They were not asked to plead and the case was postponed until July 28 for further investigation.
