Crime: Teen mom held for dumping baby

2008-05-26 00:00

A teenage girl has been arrested after she abandoned her seven-month-old baby in the bushes in kwaMsane in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

A neighbour met the teen mother and asked her where the baby was.

The girl said the baby was with her grandmother, but the woman then heard a baby crying nearby and found the infant in the bushes.

The older woman reported her discovery at a nearby homestead and police were called.

The teenage mother was found in the nearby area and has been arrested.

She was expected to appear at kwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on charges of abandoning a child yesterday.
