Crime: Teen stabbed to death in Pietermaritz St

2009-04-12 00:00

A teenage boy died in hospital after he was stabbed at a tavern in Pietermaritzburg’s city centre on Saturday night. Nhlanhla Mbeje (16) was stabbed at a tavern in Pietermaritz Street after an altercation.

Police spokesman Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said Nhlanhla was stabbed several times in the back and upper body. He was rushed to hospital by ambulance, but later died from his injuries. Police are investigating a murder case and are looking for the suspect.

In another case, the body of Selby Mdladla (29) was found at Emaqeleni Road, Imbali, on Saturday.

Police said Mdladla’s body was found by a neighbour along a footpath, naked and with a gunshot wound to the head. Police said he was confronted by unknown people, who robbed him of some of his electrical appliances, including a television and DVD player.

In another case, police are appealing to anyone who can assist with the identification of the body of a black man discovered in a plantation on a farm next to the R622, the Mooi River-Greytown road. Police said the body had reached an advanced state of decomposition, which made identification difficult.

The man was wearing a blue short-sleeve shirt and black long pants.

Anyone with information can call investigating officer Detective Constable P.S. Makhathini of the Rietvlei Detective Service, on 033 417 0712 or 073 199 3264 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
