Crime: Two robbed in CBD 30 minutes apart

2008-05-25 00:00

TWO people were robbed 30 minutes apart in the Pietermaritzburg CBD on Friday.

One of the criminals was shot in the back by a police reservist who saw Bernadette Dyers (60) being attacked by three men who stole her handbag and cellphone at 12.30 pm. The wounded suspect was taken to hospital in a stable condition and is under police guard. His accomplices managed to escape.

It seems that criminals took advantage of pay day as two robberies took place within the vicinity of banks. In a second incident, three armed men attacked Clinton Moodley (30) in Buchanan Street soon after he withdrew a substantial amount of money from a bank at 1 pm. He was attacked while walking to his vehicle. The suspect fled in a red BMW.
