Crime: two held for attack on widow

Two men have been arrested in connection with the stabbing of two Pietermaritzburg women.

One man was arrested at his home in France settlement and another was arrested at the uMngeni hospital where he is employed.

Inspector Joey Jeevan said the two men have been charged with attempted murder and are expected to appear in court shortly. Lungile Mhlongo (29) and her mother Khethiwe Mkhize (44) were attacked and stabbed at Mhlongo’s house in France. Mhlongo was awaiting the burial of her husband, Jabulani Khumalo, who reportedly died in a car accident.

The police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding Khumalo’s death. Jeevan said a case of culpable homicide is being investigated in that case.
