Crossways Inn staffer robbed

2008-05-01 00:00

A FORMER employee of Crossways Country Inn was robbed of R15 000 in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said yesterday that Jonathon du Toit was allegedly locking up the hotel at around 2.30 am and was carrying the money in a money bag.

“He was walking towards his Ford Bantam bakkie when two men appeared, one armed with a firearm,” said Budhram.

The men demanded the money and Du Toit’s car keys and got into the bakkie. Du Toit then allegedly tried to jump on to the back of the bakkie, but the men assaulted him and hit him on the head, forcing him out of the vehicle.

The robbers drove off and left Du Toit outside the hotel. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Prestbury.

Approached for comment, manager David Longstaff told The Witness he only heard about the incident the next morning, and could not comment. He said Du Toit no longer works at the hotel.

Attempts to reach Du Toit were unsuccessful.
