Curbing crime: companies donate fence to SPCA

2011-03-14 00:00

FOLLOWING an attack on a 50-year-old woman outside the Lower South Coast SPCA, an established engineering company in Margate and a Durban-based steel company have joined forces to safeguard the area.

Margate Engineering, with Steeldale of Durban, donated and erected a 130 metre fence valued at R30 000 around the SPCA property.

“If the fence could stop one attack, it is worthwhile,” said Julian Howard-Tripp of Margate Engineering.

The weld mesh and wire was donated by the Durban-based company while the posts, sand, stone, cement, gates and installation labour were donated by Margate Engineering.

SPCA manager Alaistair Sinclair said the initial arrangement was for the SPCA to pay for half of the costs.

“But Darryl from Margate Engineering would have none of it and paid for it all,” said Sinclair.
