Cutting-edge plastic show hits R100 mln

2008-05-27 00:00

PlastPack 2008 — the international plastic, rubber and packaging exhibition held over the weekend in Durban has been hailed as a phenomenal success, with almost R100 million in sales recorded.

Sathish Khanna, general manager of Al-Fajer Information and Services, the organisers of the event, confirmed the sales and said they were satisfied with the outcome.

In addition, all machinery, equipment and products available for sale at the exhibition fetched their asking prices.

By the end of the exhibition, exhibitors from Austria, Germany, Italy, India, China, Iran, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa were pleased that most of their products and machinery had been sold and plans for prospective future business tied up.

South African plastic manufacturers who purchased equipment and products from the exhibitors said the exhibition was beneficial as it provided an international injection of the latest information and technology for the industry.

Raju Desai, president of the All India Plastic Manufacturers’ Association, said he hopes South Africa and India can work successfully bi-laterally.

While Indian and Chinese exhibitors said they were looking for new business and to work bi-laterally with South African manufacturers, the older and more established European country representatives said they were at the exhibition to maintain the already successful and profitable links they had established with the South African and African market.
