Cwele on leave: acting director takes her job

2010-10-15 00:00

SHERYL Cwele will remain an employee of the Hibiscus Coast Municipality for the duration of her trial, which is being held in Pietermaritzburg, according to Simon Soboyisa, senior manager of mayoralty and communications at the municipality.

After being granted two months’ annual leave in December 2009 and January 2010, Cwele has once again taken leave to attend her trial, although Soboyisa is uncertain about the details of her leave.

He said the issue of leave is regulated and that Cwele, like any employee, will make use of the annual days that she has accumulated. If Cwele has exhausted her accumulated leave days she will have to take unpaid leave.

“... for now I wouldn’t know whether she has leave days or not. What I can assure the public at large though is that the matter is being handled in the very best interests of the municipality and the community of Hibiscus Coast at large.”

Soboyisa said there are no unprocedural processes. The municipality has appointed an acting director of health and community services, Thembi Khawula, in Cwele’s absence.
