Cycling: Stander and Taylor top two at Asishova

LAST weekend’s MTN Asishova 70km MTB Classic was won by Burry Stander (Mr Price Specialized) whose nearest competition came from his girlfriend Cherise Taylor – who placed second overall to win the women’s race.

Derrin Smith placed third overall while Samantha Oosthuysen and Shawna Thunder took second and third respectively in the women’s race.

Patrick Belton won the 35km option in one hour 18 minutes 52 seconds, followed by Dani Jensen (1:25:02) and Max Sullivan (1:25:23). Julia Colvin was the first women home (1:31:47) ahead of Marlien de Bont and Andrea de Boer.



The St Mary’s MTB Classic takes place from Bartlett Estate, Hammarsdale starting at 8.30 am tomorrow morning. On offer are 40 km, 20 km, 10 km and 5 km distances. Timing is by Elite Timing and late entries will be taken on the day at registration between 7 am – 8.30 am. (Info:

The ninth edition of the Triple Challenge takes place on Sunday, November 7. The event comprises a 20 km off-road run from the start at Polly Shorts Spar, Pietermaritzburg to the first transition point at Camperdown, followed by a 55 km mountain bike leg through the Valley of a Thousand Hills to Inanda Dam — at which stage athletes can either choose a 20 km paddle leg on Inanda Dam or 6 km trail run.
