DA’s Mark Steele back in KZN

2011-07-20 00:00

FORMER Democratic Alliance Msunduzi councillor Mark Steele returns to the province after a stint in Parliament in Cape Town.

He will take the place of DA MPL John Steenhuisen, who moves to the parliament.

Yesterday Steele was sworn in by the speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, Peggy Nkonyeni. DA KZN leader Sizwe Mchunu said his party is honoured to welcome Steele into the legislature caucus.

“We are delighted to have a member … of the calibre of Mark Steele, who has served as a public representative since 2001.

“We are confident that he will bring valuable expertise to the provincial legislature, particularly within Scopa [the standing committee on public accounts], on which he has served at national level. We look forward to seeing him play a key role within the provincial political arena.”

Steele said yesterday that he is happy to be back in KZN and in a new role.
