DA’s mchunu heads for durban west

2013-04-11 00:00

DEMOCRATIC Alliance provincial leader Sizwe Mchunu has been appointed as the party’s new constituency head for the West of Durban.

The constituency was previously headed by former DA MP Gareth Morgan, who resigned in January, and has since been replaced by deputy provincial leader Francois Rodgers.

“I have been appointed to head the constituency West of Durban (Hammarsdale, Pinetown, Westville and Claremont). Francois Rodgers was appointed as MP for Greater Kokstad.

“I still remain in KwaZulu-Natal and I have not moved,” Mchunu said yesterday.

He said the Sisonke constituency, which he previously headed, would now be Rodgers’.

Sisonke incorporates Kokstad, among other places.

Meanwhile, DA Federal Youth chairperson Mbali Ntuli has accepted a nomination to contest the federal youth leader position. The position is to be vacated by Makhasule Gana — who is now one of the DA federal deputy chairpersons — when the youth body holds its congress in May. Announcing her nomination on Twitter, Ntuli said: “Friends I have accepted nomination for DAY leader.”

She later wrote in social network Facebook that she was humbled by the support she received and looked forward to the opportunity to lead the DA youth if she was elected.

Ntuli wrote: “If elected, I commit myself to making the DA Youth become the only structure associated with progressive youth politics in this country ... I will fight for young South Africans.”
