DCCI inaugurates first female president

2011-04-15 00:00

THE KZN business community held a double celebration last night at the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (DCCI) 2011 annual gala dinner.

The chamber marked its 155th anniversary while also ushering in a new era with the inauguration of its first female president.

Thato Tsautse is the new president of the giant chamber, reportedly the largest in Africa.

Tsautse was the chamber’s deputy president. She is the CEO of the South African Association of Ship Operators and Agents.

Outgoing president Clive Manci noted that the chamber has had to deal with several challenges over the past year, including the appointment of a new CEO following the departure of Gugu Mazibuko.

He was succeeded by the former CEO of the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business, Andrew Layman.

Manci noted that although the DCCI’s net membership numbers have not shown an increase, operating losses have been reduced.

“The return to profitability has been our drive for the past five years and this year’s net numbers reflect a significant improvement,” Manci stated.
