DJ action in Durban

2010-08-20 00:00

SOME of South Africa’s finest music talent will get together in Durban this weekend  when   deep-house   duo Liquideep, is joined by leading DJs Christos, DJ Bongz and ProVerb (MC), to mark the first of a series of regional build-up events for the Hennessy Artistry 2010 campaign.

Liquideep — Jonathan ‘Ziyon’ Christian and Thabo ‘Ryzor’ Shokgolo — are currently riding a wave of success thanks to their hit Fairytale, which Christian penned last year following the break-up of a relationship.

Joining them will be Christos Katsaitis, aka DJ Christos, who has been named the Godfather of South African house music.

He has been on the scene for two decades and has worked with, among others, Boom Shaka, the late Lebo Mathosa, Shana, Daw and Black Coffee.

Durbanites will also be able to enjoy the sounds of Bongani Dlamini, aka DJ Bongz, who has cemented his standing as a leading Durban-based dance act with albums such as Sobabili, No Retreat, No Surrender, Survival of the Fittest and Spacebongz, which came out last December.

Max’s Lifestyle in Area Drive, Section V, Umlazi, is the place to be tomorrow from 2 pm, before the musos move to Delasol at 258 Florida Road, Morningside, from 10 pm.

Both events are a precursor to the star-studded Halo Event in Johannesburg on September 11.

The show will be headlined by South African Music Award winning hip-hop superstars Teargas, Liquideep, Afro-funk songstress Zamajobe and energetic jazzy groove-injected dance act GoodLuck.

Their music is also being featured on a new collaborative track called Blazing, which is produced by the DJs @ Work duo, Christos and Vinny da Vinci.

The South African events form part of the global Hennessy Artistry campaign, which culminates in an exclusive VIP concert in New York.
