DNA test to identify burnt body

2010-10-19 00:00

THE identity of the woman who burnt to death in Park Rynie on Sunday cannot be revealed until her family has been informed of the death.

“And even then, the deceased’s identity has to still be positively established,” Scottburgh’s police spokesperson Captain Vincent Pandarum said.

The woman was burnt beyond recognition in the fire.

Police will now establish her identity through Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) testing at the Scottburgh State Mortuary.

However, police did disclose that the woman was an employee at a house in Ellingham Estates who maintained the gardens.

Smoke billowed from a blazing outbuilding on Sunday at about 1.30 pm.

Seeing this, farm employees alerted the general manager, Andre Greef, who immediately drove out to the scene.

“While awaiting the arrival of the Umdoni Fire Brigade, Greef noticed the burnt human remains in the room among the rest of the burnt out contents,” Pandarum said.
