Da Gama keen to sign Down's Mere

2011-09-07 00:00

JOHANNESBURG — Owen da Gama admits he is hopeful of signing former PSL champion Vuyo Mere, but admits it will be up to the player and Platinum Stars management to come to an agreement.

The former Bafana Bafana fullback has been training with Dikwena over the past week, and coach Da Gama admits he is interested in bringing the player to Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

But he said a deal is out of his hands, and that Stars management and the former Mamelodi Sundowns star will need to come to a mutually beneficial agreement themselves.

“I am very hopeful that we will sign him, but obviously he is not a player who comes cheaply. It is now up to Vuyo and our management to sort out a deal that is beneficial to the club and the player.”

Mere, a South Africa international between 2006 and 2007, spent last season on loan at Moroka Swallows, but is a free agent after seeing out his contract with the Birds, and ultimately the Brazilians.

Da Gama is also interest in Botswana’s Pontsho Moloi and Moemedi Moatlhaping, but likely complications regarding work permits could see the pair remain unavailable during the PSL campaign. — Football365.
