2014-02-17 00:00

A 41-YEAR-OLD woman was arrested for possession of a 1,7 ton consignment of dagga in Emanguzi, close to the border with Mozambique, on Friday.

Public Order Police swooped on a homestead where they discovered 163 bags of dagga stashed in one of the houses on the premises, a statement for the SA Police Services said yesterday.

The drugs are estimated to have a street value of R1,72 million.

The police also found three 458 Winchester Magnum rounds and as well as a firearm breech block.

The woman, the owner of the premises, was arrested and detained at Emanguzi SAPS.

She will appear at Emanguzi Magistrate’s Court today on charges of dealing in drugs as well as illegal possession of ammunition.

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said the Public Order Police play a crucial role in intercepting drug smugglers, hijackers and smugglers of contraband that operate across our borders.
