Dagga dealers smoked out by Highflats police

2011-08-30 00:00

HIGHFLATS police impounded 122 kilograms of dagga with an estimated value of R122 000 recently.

The drug haul was destined for the Eastern Cape when police received information of its transit.

The vehicle was intercepted and the dagga was found tightly packaged in 10 nylon maize meal bags.

Skhumbuzo Mzuzwana (38), Mhlanganyelwa Nkontwana (38) and Nozamile Sigxeko (40), all of the Eastern Cape, were arrested.

The trio appeared in the Phungashe Periodical Magistrates’ Court in Highflats last Monday.

The case has been remanded until September 6 for a formal bail application. The accused remain in police custody. The vehicle they were travelling in has been impounded.

Highflats police station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Mlungisi Gladstone Ndwalane welcomed the arrests and said the abuse of drugs in the area is a matter of concern.

“I urge the members of the community to contact the police if they have any information on drug trafficking or drug abuse in the area. We cannot allow our people, particularly our youth, to ruin their lives through drug abuse.”

Ndwalane said drug dealers are greedy and unscrupulous and are willing to get rich at any cost, but the police are determined to rid the community of them.
