Daughter's murder: ‘no police action’

2008-06-22 00:00

The Mngadi family in Sweetwaters, Pietermaritzburg, is still in the dark about the case of their daughter who was brutally murdered by her estranged boyfriend on June 12.

What annoys the family most is that it has been eight days since Ncengeni Mngadi (28) was murdered and police have still not come to take statements from them. Also, the fact that her murderer, who slit her throat, has still not been arrested despite being seen in the area, adds to the family’s injury.

Police spokeswoman Inspector Joey Jeevan confirmed that the suspect, an ex-murder convict, has not yet been arrested for Ncengeni’s murder. He was released last year after serving a long prison sentence for another murder.

Jeevan said police followed leads given to them by several witnesses. “We visited the area on Tuesday (June 17) night, but could not find him,” she said.

The deceased’s father, Robert Mngadi said his only option left is to lay a complaint with the station commander at the Plessislaer Police Station.

“… I’m not happy that he (the suspect) is still not yet arrested,” said Mngadi.
