De Bruyn sets up win for Titans

YOUNG Theunis de Bruyn notched up his second century of the season as the Titans recorded a seven-wicket victory over the Warriors in a Momentum One-Day Cup fixture at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth, yesterday.

The 22-year-old De Bruyn, batting at No. 3, produced a masterful display with the bat in scoring an unbeaten 152 as he helped his side comfortably chase down 279 with 15 balls to spare.

De Bruyn’s innings was that good that it almost made Ferhaan Behardien’s fine knock of 62 not out seem like a bit-part. The pair put on 175 unbeaten runs for the fourth wicket in only 23 overs.

What makes De Bruyn’s performance even more impressive is the fact that he was only playing his sixth-ever List A fixture. He faced 144 deliveries and stroked 16 fours and three sixes.

The Warriors toiled away but they lacked penetration as a whole.

The victory moved the Titans into fourth position while the Warriors remain rooted to the foot of the table.

Earlier, a solid top-order contribution enabled the Warriors to post a competitive 278 for six wickets.

Michael Price (71) and No. 3 Colin Ingram (73) both made half-centuries while Price’s opening partner weighed-in with 44 to set the foundation for their innings.
